Home and business owners from across Canada, the US, and Europe are enjoying a high level of comfort., while significantly reducing their energy use with Geoexchange (geothermal ground source) heating and cooling systems.
Geothermal heating is the capturing of heat energy from the ground source and transferring the heat to the house. This process uses a number of 6" diameter wells drilled deep into the ground. Loops of polyethylene pipe are inserted to the bottom of the well and filled with methyl hydrate solution. A ground source heat pump is installed in the basement of the home and is connected to the wells via underground pipes, as the solution circulates, heat is drawn from the ground, collected and transferred to the home heating system. This system provides both heating and air-conditioning. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, geoexchange is the most energy-efficient, environmentally clean and cost-effective space conditioning system available. Today, more than 650,000 geothermal heat pump units are installed in the US and Canada, resulting in an annual savings of 5.2 billion kWh, 26 trillion BTU’s of fossil fuels, reduced electricity demand by 1.7 million kWh and the elimination of nearly 4 million tons of CO2. Those 650,000 installations are equivalent to:
Geothermal Benefits
Lower Operating costs: A geothermal system operated more efficiently that ordinary heating and air conditioning systems 40% - 50% in most cases. Comfortable: Because the unit uses the relatively stable temperature of the earth as an energy source. you are assured of even winter heating and better humidity control and cooling in the summer. Safe and Clean: No flame, no flue, no odors just safe reliable operation year after year. Flexibility: The unit provides heating, central air conditioning and hot water all from the same compact unit. Economical Water Heating: Water heating can be a significant energy expense Geothermal units can reduce the high cost of water heating by as much as 66%. Attractive: The completely self-contained unit needs no noisy, unsightly outside condensing unit. Environment: The system emits no carbon dioxide, which is considered a major contributor to environmental air pollution.
